Encik Mohammad Nizar Idris

Encik Mohammad Nizar Idris is currently the Chairman of MCIS Insurance Berhad. He is also the Chairman of Bechtel Malaysia, CDC Management Sdn Bhd and CDC Consulting Sdn Bhd. He is also an independent Board member of Eversendai Corporation Bhd.

He was the Chariman of Pacific & Orient Insurance Bhd. He was the Deputy Chairman of the Shell Group of Companies in Malaysia. He was also the Chairman of Shell Chemicals Malaysia. He also served on the Boards of RHB Capital Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd, RHB Sakura Investment Bank, RHB Unit Trust Management Bhd and RHB Insurance Bhd. He was the Chairman of Fitters Diversified Bhd. He was also a Director of Khazanah Nasional Bhd and sat on the boards of its subsidiaries.

Encik Nizar was a Trustee of the Shell Malaysia Retirement Fund and The Shell Malaysia Provident Fund. He was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and a Director of Malaysian Institute of Economic Research. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Art Gallery. He was the President of the Harvard Business School Alumni Club, Malaysia.

Encik Nizar had extensive legal experience working for the Government of Malaysia and the private sector both in Malaysia and internationally. He was appointed as a Senior Federal Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers advising the Government of Malaysia. As a Senior Federal Counsel he was also the legal advisor to the Ministry of Finance on tax and fiscal matters. He also represented the Government of Malaysia on a number of landmark cases both in the courts in Malaysia and at the Privy Counsel in London.

He left the service of the Government when he was headhunted to join the Royal Dutch Shell Group. He retired from Shell as the Executive Director of the upstream, downstream, manufacturing and refining, gas, property and investment companies of Shell in Malaysia.
