FIDE FORUM - CGM Conversations with Chairmen: A Standing Item in Board Agendas

The importance of climate change is already reflected in the board agenda. Embedded as part of the ESG strategy, climate-related priorities present business with strategic opportunities as well as fresh developments in the realignment of its business model to a future low carbon economy. These developments have raised the need for Boards to adopt a more proactive approach towards addressing climate-related risks, and to increase its readiness.

In preparing Boards for such commitment, FIDE FORUM is pleased to partner with Climate Governance Malaysia (CGM) to host a one-hour event on climate change update. The event is part of its series Conversations with Chairmen: A Standing Item in Board Agenda.

We are pleased to invite you to this engagement with the Chairman of the Climate Governance Initiative. Ms Karina Litvack will be the main speaker, she will set the context of recent global climate-related developments, but will look forward to hear and address burning board questions. The objectives of this engagement are as follows:

• To meet and discuss with Member Directors on pressing issues relating to climate governance;
• To update about the latest developments by businesses and industries on climate actions; and
• To provide perspectives of institutional investors as they demand better reporting and disclosure.

The moderator for this event is Ms Chong Chye Neo.

Who is the Speaker?

Karina Litvack, Founder and Chairman of the Climate Governance Initiative serves on the boards of Italian Oil & Gas major Eni S.p.A., where she chairs the Sustainability & Scenarios Committee, and serves on the Remuneration Committee; and the CFA Institute, home of the professional qualification for investment management professionals, where she chairs the ESG Working Group of the Investment Sub-Committee and serves on the Governance Committee.

Since the passage of the Paris Agreement at CoP21 in 2015, Karina has also been working to build a global network for fellow board directors to share experiences, engage with technical experts and stakeholders, access specialised training, and help to drive more effective climate transition strategies in the boardroom. Under the auspices of the World Economic Forum, she co-founded the Climate Governance Initiative (CGI), home of the WEF Principles for Effective Climate Governance for Non-Executive Directors, where she chairs the Governing Board. The CGI operates through a network of 21 national and regional Chapters in APAC, EMEA and the Americas, often in collaboration with local institutes of directors.
