FIDE FORUM is organizing Focus Group Discussions for FIDE FORUM member directors to seek your insights on the roles and responsibilities of Independent Non-Executive Directors (INEDs) of FIs.
 
In 2016, with the support of Bank Negara Malaysia and Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia, FIDE FORUM ("FORUM") launched the Directors Register (“DR”) services, a game changer that promotes board diversity and succession planning in FIs.  The FORUM has since then developed its Board Leadership Framework based on Directors’ input, leveraging on Korn Ferry’s 4 Dimensions of Leadership and Talent Framework (“KF4D”). The Board Leadership Framework has been used in other board services offered by the FORUM, including Board Succession Planning, coaching of board talent and Board Effectiveness Evaluation, an industry-wide research project which will be launched in 2021.
 
Locally and globally, drastic changes have been taking place in the macroeconomic environment and financial industry landscape.  With the uncertainties and unprecedented developments and changes confronting the world, financial services industry and the Boards are expected to keep up-to-date with the latest trends and requirements in view of the impact of these changes to the financial services industry.
 
In view of this, it is timely for the industry to revisit the Board Leadership Framework to ensure its robustness in identifying talent who can best serve as Directors on  FI Boards and to provide value to the FORUM’s member FIs through our Directors Register Services and other Board services.
 
For that purpose, FIDE FORUM would like to seek your insights in the following areas relating to the roles and responsibilities of Independent Non-Executive Directors (INEDs) of FIs

1. What are the key challenges that financial services industry face, now and in the near future?
2. What kind of cultural environment would drive the financial services industry over the next 5 years?
3. What critical leadership competencies should an INED have?
4. What traits do FIs look for when identifying INEDs to join their Boards?
5. What are the expectations from regulators’ perspectives?

This closed-door session will be facilitated by a senior consultant from Korn Ferry, together with the FORUM’s management team.
